On Monday, Dec. 8, the Ring of Fire handbell choir from Tualatin Valley Junior Academy, Hillsboro, Ore., will board a plane to head east to play in the performance of a lifetime, the televised Holiday Pops Concert with the world famous Boston Pops! Ring of Fire, with their director Jason Wells, will perform three concerts with the Boston Pops, one on Dec.10 and two on Dec. 11.
For the Dec. 11 performances, Ring of Fire will be playing one number with the Pops, another solo number, as well as joining for the concert opener and finale with the other guest artists, teenage country star Billy Gilman and celebrated vocalist Maureen McGovern. Keith Lockhart will be conducting the Pops and as a special addition, CBS Sunday Mornings Charles Osgood will also narrate Twas the Night Before Christmas.
ROF will also perform with the Boston Pops on Dec. 10 for A Company Christmas at Pops benefit concert. In addition to Ring of Fires performance, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will read excerpts from the Dickens novel A Christmas Carol and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will conduct Sleigh Ride. CEOs, presidents, and executives from more than 125 New England-based companies will take part in this years gala event, raising nearly 1 million dollars for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Inc. In addition to their performance during the evening concert, Ring of Fire will be providing music for the pre-concert dinner and reception for the invited guests.
